1953 World Tour

Sydney to Southampton

Various 35mm films of the journey to London for the Coronation of Elizabeth II.

The Coronation and Southern England

Actual footage of the Coronation filmed by Blair, followed by various films of their tour through southern England as they visit many well-known places.

North England, Scotland, across to Europe and then Australia and arrival home into Wellington Harbour.

Various 35mm films of the tour north to Scotland, followed by a tour of France, Italy, and Switzerland, in particular a visit to Rouen Cemetery, where Nan and Blair visit the grave of her son Rex, who died in WWII.

It was 1953, the year of the Coronation of Elizabeth II and just 18 months since the death of her husband, when Nan, accompanied by her youngest son, Blair, departed for the United Kingdom and Europe. Blair had recently acquired a 35mm film camera, and the following videos are copies of a collection of 35mm films taken by Blair that record their tour. We are indebted to Blair for his vision to record their experience.
